Congress 2008
The 9th SIMONE Congress was held October 15—17, 2008 in the ancient city of Dubrovnik, Croatia. This traditional worldwide event is now organized by SIMONE Research Group s.r.o., Prague, and LIWACOM Informationstechnik GmbH, Essen, in a prominent partnership with Plinacro d.o.o, Zagreb and in partnership with KONČAR - KET, Zagreb.
This year, 97 participants arrived from 40 companies and 20 countries, representing mostly pipeline system operators, shippers, and also software vendors, system integrators, special service providers, research institutions. The vendors/integrators community was represented by 27 attendees from 9 companies.
Professional program
The professional program of the congress covered main areas of interest concerning simulation and optimization of gas pipeline systems:
- Consumption forecast
- System integration - SCADA systems and real-time pipeline models, Computational support of commercial gas management systems
- Distribution systems modeling
- Transportation systems modeling and optimization
- Computational gas quality tracking for billing purposes
- Simulation-based training systems
During 5 main plenary sessions, in total 12 technical papers were presented by 15 speakers.
One series of consecutive presentations dealt in particular with the project of National Dispatching Center of Plinacro, illustrating this complex project from different viewpoints of user, integrator, SCADA and simulation software vendors, covering the project circumstances, history, technology behind, operational experience and future.
Separate session, held by SIMONE development team members, was dedicated to new features and development directions of this software package.
The plenary session were accompanied by small exhibition with 5 exhibitors; offering time and space for less formal technical discussions and demonstrations.
Social program
The social program, following the tradition of SIMONE events to always visit places of historical, natural or human interest, was inspired by the exceptional venue of Dubrovnik. Two evenings offered great opportunity to enjoy the beautiful view, see the sights, touch the stones and feel the atmosphere of the Old Town.
